The South Korea Under-18 (U18) 안전놀이터 National Softball Team ended the 2023 U18 Women’s Softball Asia Cup in fifth place.
South Korea, led by Jang Jae-ho, defeated Singapore 15-1 in a four-run, run-around game in the championship game at the Pingtan Softball Stadium in China on April 2.
South Korea finished the tournament in fifth place. Korea came into the tournament after failing to advance to the Super Round.
In the final game of the tournament on Wednesday, No. 2 Japan and No. 3 Chinese Taipei faced off, with Japan defeating Chinese Taipei 1-0 to win the title.
In the individual awards, Kim Ji-yoon won the most stolen bases award, while Seo Dain (Future Star Award) and Song Min-ju (All-Star Award for second baseman) were among the three winners.
Coach Jang Jae-ho said, “It’s unfortunate that we didn’t achieve our goal of third place, but I personally learned a lot from this tournament. I will do my best as a coach so that Korea can produce players who can compete with the best in the world.”
