San Diego Padres starter Darvish Yu, who has been on a roll in the second half of his career, has been positive about his chemistry with catcher Luis Camposano.
“I felt good with the ball movement and my velocity was up,” Darvish said after the Padres’ 2-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Tuesday. I felt really good,” he said of his performance.
Darvish pitched six innings of four-hit 스포츠토토 ball with three walks and seven strikeouts in a 2-0 victory and his seventh win of the season.
“I had a good four-seam fastball, so I threw it a lot, and I had a good hard cutter. It was a good weapon,” he said of his pitches on the day.
As for his cruising after getting out of the first inning with runners on first and second, he dismissed the connection, saying, “When a new inning starts, I’m not thinking about the last inning, I’m thinking about getting the next batter.”
Working with Camposano, who returned from injury on the day, he credited the catcher’s lead, saying, “He had his own pitches and I didn’t have to think too much.”
“I wanted to throw a sweeper, but he asked for a two-seam, and I trusted him, and it worked,” he said, referring to the time he caught Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on a grounder to the pitcher with runners on first and second in the fifth inning.
“Gary Sanchez has been signing a lot lately, too,” he said, noting that he relied on his catcher for about 40 percent of his pitches. I think I signed a little more today,” he said, responding to a reporter’s question about whether 60 percent was too much.
His no-hitter was highlighted by Manny Machado’s RBI double in the fifth inning. “He said last year was his best year offensively, and I’m not an expert, but I think he’s actually better than last year,” he said, praising his teammate’s offense.
“He’s been out of shape for a while, but he’s back,” said manager Bob Melvin. We put runners on base early and cruised from there. It was similar to what Joe Musgrove did the day before,” said Melvin, who praised Darvish’s performance.
“The starters weren’t at their best early in the season, and the bullpen did a great job, but I think the starters are back to where they were last year. It’s taking the pressure off the bullpen,” he said, praising the starters for their second-half performance.
