After undergoing surgery for a sports hernia, Tottenham Hotspur’s ‘captain’ Son Heung-min is unlikely to play against Peru on Saturday.
After the final match of the 38th round of the English Premier League on Sept. 29, Son underwent surgery for a mild sports hernia and is on his way home.
After undergoing surgery and recovering for more than two weeks, Son has been participating in the national team’s training camp in Busan, 안전놀이터 which began on Dec. 12, and has been practicing with the Taegeuk Warriors.
Although he has no problems with training, it is reported that he is having difficulty giving 100% when shooting.
As a result, coach Klinsmann has chosen to ‘protect the player’ and is expected to skip the Peru match.
If Son Heung-min misses the match against Peru, Oh Hyun-gyu (Celtic) will most likely take his place. Hwang Eui-jo (Seoul) and Cho Kyu-sung (Jeonbuk) are expected to lead the front line as the top two strikers.
Meanwhile, Jürgen Klinsmann’s men’s national team will take on Peru at 8 p.m. on June 16 at the Asiad Stadium in Busan for the first of two June A matches.
