Choi Seok-hyun, the ‘178cm short center back’, is determined to “concede the fewest goals among the 32 teams at the World Cup”

Center back Choi Seok-hyun is ready to take on powerhouse France.

The South Korea U-20 national soccer team, led by head coach Kim Eun-joong, will take on Honduras in their second match of Group F at the 2022 FIFA U-20 World Cup Argentina at Estadio Malvinas Argentina in Mendoza, Argentina, on June 26 at 6 a.m. ET.

South Korea is second in the group with three points after a 1-0 win over France earlier in the day. A win against Honduras would give them an early exit, depending on the outcome of the France-Gambia match.

Kim Eun-Joong-ho’s defense shut down the opposition in the first game against France. If it weren’t for a dodgy penalty, the defense could have kept a clean sheet.

Center back Choi Seok-hyun told the Korea Football Association on the 25th that he is confident ahead of the match against Honduras.

He said, “I had good chemistry with (Kim) 스포츠토토 Jisoo. I think we had a good defense with our positioning and quick reactions,” he said, recalling the France match.

At 178 centimeters, Kim is not tall for a center back. However, he used his agility to his advantage against France. “Sergio Ramos is a role model for me,” he said, “because he has the same physical condition and he’s playing on the big stage for a long time with good defense.”

Against Honduras, he said, “Their offense is faster than I expected and they have good side crosses. We’ll have to mark them to prevent crosses from the side and make sure we don’t concede a goal.”

A total of 32 teams are participating in the World Cup. South Korea was the runner-up at the last edition in Poland in 2019.

“We want to finish the tournament with the fewest conceded goals among the 32 teams,” Choi said.
